democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.
The set is the 2007 presidential debate, a variation on the "That's Right" campaign involving Mr. Pigtails standing up at some form of campaign rally and proclaiming that since this is a free country everyone deserves more than just fries or whichever product or set of satisfying services Wendy's is intent on pushing through the arteries of the unsuspecting public. After all "At Wendy's®, we're unrivaled in our passion for giving people what they want — and uncompromising in giving people what they deserve." (direct quote from wendys.com) To summarize the Wendy's motto realistically, you do what you want, we get rich, you get heart disease, and you die.
The commercial urges the viewer not to rest until they get their Wendy's, even though there may very well be more pressing matters at hand than satiation. In spite of whatever surface message was intended, the underlying message says sit back relax and let us take care of everything, and if there is anything that can be done to make you more comfortable that should be your first priority. If this doesn't scream selfishness I don't know what does. Forgo what may be necessary in the name of luxury. I must say if selling burgers is the most important thing in the world than the commercial is right on track, but otherwise:
from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondageEventually this country sells its soul for a double cheeseburger, or much less. I would say the debt we owe to other countries should be paid back before citizens get rewards, but we know that the citizens won't stand for this, will they? Well the good news is maybe they get to die before their children have massive debt and no country left of their own left to stand on. Keep eating that fast food, corroded arteries are the easy way out! What you don't have to live through yourself can't hurt you, can it? This was amusing though.
